BREAD AND MOTHER

The Basics for a Delicious Life

Good Food that Nourishes the Soul...

Like bread and butter, meeting your basic recipe needs

Life is complicated enough so our recipes focus on simple and delicious food. But we're not just about bread - Bread and Mother  features receipes from appetizers to entrees to sides and salads and, of course, desserts.

We want to help you put something delicious on the table whether you're new to the kitchen or a master chef! But we're not just going to tell you all the good stuff about cooking, we're also going to let you know where we've gone wrong with our recipes - those Bread and Mother disasters - because everyone loves bloopers and outtakes! So roll up your sleeves and pick up your spatula and let's start cooking!

New Recipe!

A friend of mine has a spaghetti sauce recipe SO secret that you, literally, have to marry into the family to get a copy. Hardcore, man!
On the other end of the spectrum, I recently had the pleasure of preparing “Sunday Gravy” with my “former” mother in law. She is Sicilian Italian, a truly amazing cook, and apparently believes: Family is Family…no matter what…..Life is long!
Her Sunday Gravy is a scrumptious, herby marinara sauce and highly versatile. I decided one cold, wintry day to try it again on my own but to play with it by adding a hearty meat mixture and calling it a ragout.

About Us

  1. Managing Director
Sarah is a self-proclaimed baker, with more failures than successes under her belt (stay tuned for her post on beer cheese). Nonprofit work by day, new recipes by night...cooking is her favorite thing and eating is a close second. When she is not mooching off coffee shop Wi-Fi, she's listening to podcasts and making a mess in her little bitty kitchen. She moved to Savannah for the good southern food (and a job). Chow!
  2. Managing Director
When Anne was 10 years old she wanted to be an Olympic gold medalist (didn't matter what sport), wanted to climb Mt. Everest and own a horse. Years and years (and years) later no gold medal, no horse, no photos of her planting a flag on the summit of Everest. What makes these dashed dreams bearable is cooking. Cooking gets her through life's ups and downs. Anne tried to meditate but found it hard to sit still and empty her mind (okay the empty mind thing was easy). Turns out cooking is Anne's meditation . There's peace in a fried egg and mindfulness in a homemade pretzel. Cooking is Ommmm. Namaste everybody.
